Business & Operations Manager

Program Overview

Currently, global sustainability and climate expectations continue to rise. Consequently, Indonesian companies face increasing pressure to translate international and national targets into concrete corporate action. Therefore, businesses must adopt credible sustainability strategies and strengthen emissions management. Moreover, they are expected to align with evolving global standards and disclosure frameworks.

At the same time, new regulations, market expectations, and investor demands are accelerating. As a result, this drives the need for robust sustainability advisory and implementation support. In response, companies are seeking partners to guide them through complex transitions. Specifically, these transitions include climate strategy, sustainability reporting, nature-related risk management, and decarbonization pathways.

In this evolving landscape, Bestari Sustainability serves as a strategic advisory and implementation partner. Accordingly, we support companies across sectors in developing credible, science-based sustainability strategies and implementation pathways. As Bestari continues to grow, we are seeking a Business & Operations Manager. In this capacity, the manager will handle day-to-day operations and engage with clients. Ultimately, this person will drive long-term business growth for the firm.

Job Highlight

Fundamentally, the Business & Operations Manager leads the operational execution and internal delivery engine of Bestari Sustainability. To achieve this, the role oversees a broad range of internal functions. For instance, these include proposal development, project management, and delivery quality assurance. Additionally, it covers financial tracking, operational systems, and HR coordination. Furthermore, it involves legal compliance and drafting internal policies. Operationally, this manager works under the direction of the Director. In practice, they translate strategic decisions into structured, well-run internal processes. Ultimately, these processes enable the firm to deliver consistently and grow sustainably.

Because of this scope, this position requires strong project management discipline and solid financial literacy. Similarly, excellent written communication in English and Bahasa Indonesia is essential. Moreover, the candidate must build operational systems from scratch in a growing consulting firm. In addition, the role requires practical experience in running multiple concurrent client engagements. Concurrently, it demands strong organizational skills to coordinate teams and manage vendors. Besides these duties, the manager oversees compliance obligations and maintains crucial internal advisory standards.

Beyond internal operations, this role strongly supports business development. For example, responsibilities include end-to-end proposal drafting and pipeline tracking. Moreover, the manager conducts structured follow-up on opportunities sourced by the Director. Alongside these efforts, the manager collaborates closely with the Director and technical teams. Specifically, this involves working across sustainability, climate, and environmental advisory projects. Together, they ensure delivery, client experience, and operational systems align with Bestari’s strategic direction and quality standards.

What You Will Do

In close coordination with the Director, Operations Coordinator, and Project Lead, Business & Operations Manager will support the following activities:

Operational Leadership & Project Delivery
  • Lead the day-to-day management of Bestari’s client engagements, including workplan development, resource allocation, timeline management, deliverable tracking, and quality control across concurrent projects.
  • Oversee delivery quality across the project portfolio, ensuring all client deliverables meet Bestari’s standards and align with methodologies and quality benchmarks set by the Director.
  • Serve as the delivery-level point of contact for clients, managing day-to-day client communication and escalating strategic, contractual, or sensitive matters to the Director.
  • Coordinate resourcing and team assignment across active projects, resolving operational conflicts and escalating capacity constraints for strategic decision-making.
  • Support the Director in reviewing major client deliverables and preparing them for senior-level submission.
Business Development Support & Proposal Management
  • Draft end-to-end technical and commercial proposals — including scope, workplans, timelines, and budgets — based on strategic positioning, win themes, and pricing decisions provided by the Director.
  • Support the Director in client pitches, discovery sessions, and early-stage engagement meetings through preparation of supporting materials, capture of scope requirements, and structured post-meeting follow-up.
  • Research prospective clients and market opportunities, and provide recommendations on qualification and go/no-go decisions to the Director.
  • Maintain the firm’s pipeline and CRM systems, providing regular updates on active opportunities, submitted proposals, and prospective engagements.
  • Contribute to marketing execution — including campaigns, content, and digital presence — in alignment with the brand direction and strategic priorities set by the Director.
Financial, Operational & Compliance Management
  • Oversee project-level budget tracking, profitability monitoring, invoicing, and receivables management across the firm’s engagement portfolio.
  • Prepare financial data, reports, and analyses to support the Director’s reporting to Shareholders and internal financial decision-making.
  • Approve expenses and procurement below agreed thresholds, and escalate above-threshold matters for Director approval and sign-off.
  • Build and maintain the firm’s operational systems — including project management tools, internal workflows, vendor relationships, IT infrastructure, and office operations.
  • Execute the firm’s corporate compliance obligations, including PT SDDL filings, tax reporting, permits, and regulatory deadlines, coordinating with external counsel where required.
  • Draft and negotiate routine vendor agreements, partnership contracts, employment agreements, and NDAs, escalating high-value or complex matters to the Director for negotiation and signature.
Human Resources & Organizational Development
  • Approve and end-to-end recruitment for junior and mid-level positions, and support the Director on senior-level hiring.
  • Coordinate day-to-day human resources functions, including onboarding, leave management, timesheets, performance reviews for non-senior team members, and payroll administration.
  • Design and deliver training programs, development plans, and team culture initiatives to strengthen internal capability, wellbeing, and organisational cohesion.
  • Draft, maintain, and periodically review internal policies — including HR, finance, procurement, IT & data security, health & safety, delivery quality standards, and learning & development — for Director approval.
  • Support the Director in disciplinary processes, sensitive HR matters, and broader organisational development initiatives.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Project Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred, particularly in sustainability management, business administration, or environmental policy.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive professional experience in project management, operations management, or business/programme coordination — preferably within a sustainability consulting firm, environmental advisory, development programme, or professional services environment. Direct experience within a growing or startup consulting firm is highly valued.
Project Management & Commercial Proficiency
  • Demonstrated track record of independently leading and delivering multiple concurrent client engagements, partnership on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality. Familiarity with established project management methodologies is preferred.
  • Proven ability to draft high-quality technical and commercial proposals, client-facing reports, and formal correspondence in professional English and Bahasa Indonesia. Strong command of business writing conventions, including proposal structure, executive summaries, methodology narratives, and budget justifications.
  • Solid financial and commercial literacy, including practical experience in building project budgets, tracking profitability, managing cash flow, interpreting profit-and-loss statements, and applying pricing principles in a professional services context. Comfort working with financial reporting tools and translating financial data into management insights.
Operational Excellence & Certifications
  • Strong ability to design, implement, and continuously improve operational systems, workflows, SOPs, and internal governance mechanisms. Experience building organisational structures, quality processes, or compliance systems from the ground up is highly valued.
  • Have certification such as ISO, Project Management Professional (PMP), and any other related will be an advantage.
Leadership & Compliance
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating or line-managing small teams, including recruitment, onboarding, day-to-day supervision, performance conversations, and team development. Ability to foster a collaborative, high-performance, and inclusive work culture aligned with Bestari’s values.
  • Practical understanding of Indonesian corporate compliance obligations, employment regulations, procurement standards, and data protection principles. Experience coordinating with external legal counsel, auditors, or regulators is a plus.
Subject Matter Expertise & Mindset
  • Working knowledge of key sustainability and climate frameworks, such as ESG, GHG Protocol, SBTi, TCFD, TNFD, CDP, GRI, or ISSB standards. Familiarity with the sustainability advisory market in Indonesia and Southeast Asia is a strong advantage.
  • High degree of ownership, self-direction, and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-moving, growing consulting environment. Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the discipline to build structure where none exists.
  • Genuine passion for sustainability, integrity, and a deep commitment to driving positive environmental and social impact.
