Pioneering Science-Based Climate Targets in Indonesia’s Real Estate Sector

PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk, one of Indonesia’s leading property developers, sought to align its operations with global climate goals by validating its near-term emission reduction targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The challenge involved decarbonizing both operational and value chain emissions within the complex building sector while ensuring alignment with internationally recognized methodologies. In parallel, Pakuwon aimed to improve its climate transparency and performance through CDP Climate Disclosure, where it previously received a D score.

Solution

Bestari supported Pakuwon through a comprehensive approach, including enhancing its baseline emissions inventory, setting science-based targets using the Sectoral Decarbonization Approach (SDA) for buildings, identifying both building-related and non-building emissions, and developing a detailed decarbonization roadmap aligned with SBTi requirements. Additionally, Bestari assisted Pakuwon in preparing and improving its CDP Climate Disclosure by strengthening data quality, aligning responses with CDP requirements, and enhancing climate governance and risk disclosures.

Result

In March 2025, Pakuwon received official approval from SBTi, becoming the first company globally to achieve an approved science-based target in using Building Sectoral Decarbonization Approach (SDA), marking a significant milestone in advancing sustainable real estate development in Indonesia. Furthermore, Pakuwon successfully improved its CDP Climate score from D to C in 2025, reflecting significant progress in its climate disclosure and management practices.
